Graduate Athletic Leadership Program Outcomes

Goal 1 : Students should be able to apply theory and research in the sport sciences to support an evidence-based practice.

  • SLO 1 : Students conduct a literature review in their area of study.  
  • SLO 2 : Students apply basic quantitative and qualitative research methods when conducting a survey study.
  • SLO 3 : Students identify key characteristics of research designs.
  • SLO 4 : Students create knowledge translation pieces for effective dissemination of evidence-based information to a target sport audience.

Goal 2 : Students should be able to demonstrate, in writing and action, progress in their critical consciousness (i.e., knowledge, attitudes, and skills) process to grow as an inclusive and equity-minded leader. 

  • SLO 5 : Students apply critical concepts and frameworks to articulate how they intend to engage in a more inclusive, equity-minded practice.
  • SLO 6 : Students demonstrate facilitation skills to guide dialogue on a social identity related topic.
  • SLO 7 : Students engage in tangible action that challenges social identity oppression to positive impact the sport and community at large.

Goal 3 : Students should be able to effectively communicate their professional experiences, strengths and identities in pursuit of employment in the field or placement into post-graduate degree programs.

  • SLO 8 : Students identify their strengths, areas of improvement and opportunities for continued growth in collaboration with their site supervisor through their field work.
  • SLO 9 :  Students create relevant professional materials for the job search process for individuals pursuing a coaching career.
  • SLO 10 :  Students retrospectively debrief with faculty and site supervisors on what they learned through their field work and implications for their future professional practice.

Goal 4 : Students should be able to demonstrate effective leadership to act in the best interests of the people they serve.

  • SLO 11 : Students create their authentic philosophy as a sport leader (coach, administrator and/or practitioner).
  • SLO 12 : Students apply motor learning and pedagogical principles to teach motor skills and performance.
  • SLO 13 : Students apply sport psychology concepts to create psychologically safe environment for athletes and (where applicable) their teams.
