Goal 1 : Graduates of the Applied Exercise Physiology program will be prepared to practice as an entry level applied exercise physiologist or continue on for a(n) higher/additional degree.

  • SLO 1 : Students will demonstrate a mastery of the fundamentals in applied exercise physiology, which include successful completion of courses in cardiovascular, pulmonary, neuromuscular physiology, and exercise biochemistry.
  • SLO 2 : Students will learn how to perform laboratory assessments commonly found in exercise physiology laboratories, which are learned in the following courses:
    • Cardiovascular physiology AEXS 603
    • Exercise biochemistry AEXS 602
    • Environmental Physiology AEXS 606
  • SLO 3 : Students will learn how to interpret the results of laboratory assessments and to relate this information to the individual being tested.

Goal 2 : Graduates will obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform applied exercise physiology research.

  • SLO 4 : Students will learn how to review the literature on a topic related to applied exercise physiology and to identify gaps in the literature.
  • SLO 5 : Students will learn how to complete a research study to answer a research question identified from a thorough review of literature.
  • SLO 6 : Students will learn how to perform statistical analyses to answer research question identified and applied to a research study.

Goal 3 : Graduates of the Applied Exercise Physiology program will learn how to engage in scholarly activity related to the field of applied exercise physiology.

  • SLO 7 : Students will learn how to organize and complete clear, concise, and effective oral presentations.
  • SLO 8 : Students will learn how to write papers for submission to peer-reviewed journals in the field of applied exercise physiology.
