Overview

Our Athletic Training program prepares clinicians who are credentialed, employment‑ready, and committed to patient‑centered, evidence‑based care—rooted in Springfield College’s Humanics philosophy of educating the whole person in spirit, mind, and body, in leadership and service to others.

Our Mission

The mission of the Springfield College Athletic Training Professional Program is to prepare students to enter into the athletic training profession as competent, caring, and compassionate health care providers. We create safe and dynamic learning environments that support the personal, professional, and academic growth of students. We commit to maintaining contemporary expertise and implementing innovative teaching and learning strategies through an evidence-based approach. Students will be prepared to employ a holistic approach to providing healthcare, leadership, and service within the community, informed by the Humanics philosophy.

Goal 1- Credentialing & Professional Readiness

Prepare students to earn the Board of Certification© (BOC) credential and transition into professional practice as evidence‑based health care providers.

Why this matters: Students graduate ready to enter the workforce and contribute on day one—confident in current standards of care and team‑based practice.

Goal 1 - Student Learning Objectives

SLO 1: Obtain the Board of Certification© Certified Athletic Trainer credential.
SLO 2: Achieve employment as an athletic trainer and/or pursue advanced specialization.
SLO 3: Deliver patient‑centered care with appreciation for interprofessional collaboration.
SLO 4: Evaluate and integrate evidence to apply best practices that promote safe, effective care.

Goal 2 — Scholarship, Reflection & Clinical Reasoning

Develop critical thinking to engage in scholarly inquiry, lifelong learning, reflective practice, and sound clinical reasoning.

Why this matters: Graduates make outstanding clinical decisions, keep pace with emerging evidence, and continuously improve their practice.

SLO 5: Use the scientific process (discovery, critical analysis) to conduct scholarly inquiry that supports lifelong learning.
