Occupational Therapy (Graduate) Program Outcomes
Goal 1: Students will develop the skills to provide services that promote occupation, participation, and health using models that are responsive to the unique needs of clients, families, and communities.
- SLO 1: Students will describe and examine multiple theories and models of practice related to health, participation, and occupational performance.
- SLO 2: Students will understand and appreciate the role of occupational performance for the promotion of health and wellbeing, disease prevention, and optimizing functional participation.
- SLO 3: Students will understand bodily structures, functions, and pathology and describe the role of injury, illness, or dysfunction in occupational performance across the lifespan.
- SLO 4: Students will engage in community based, experiential learning opportunities and identify and articulate the occupational needs of the client(s) within the community.
Goal 2: Students will develop the knowledge and reasoning ability needed to understand human occupation, to synthesize information to develop plans, and to implement intervention and transition services for a variety of people within various contexts across the lifespan.
- SLO 5: Students will gather relevant client information from a variety of sources (interview, evaluation, etc), synthesize that information, and create client-centered treatment plans to meet diverse client needs.
- SLO 6: Students will identify barriers and supports to occupational participation at key points of transition across the lifespan.
- SLO 7: Students will synthesize available information to identify relevant services for treatment and transition plans and design treatment and transition plans that minimize barriers and optimize occupational performance/ participation.
- SLO 8: Students will utilize clinical reasoning to develop client- specific goals and objectives/benchmarks appropriate to the context and that meet client needs, wishes, and functional abilities.
Goal 3: Students will describe various theories and their relationships to the philosophical base and historical perspectives of occupational therapy, and to demonstrate the application of theory in OT practice.
- SLO 9: Students will effectively use the current edition of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework to guide evaluation and treatment planning.
- SLO 10: Students will describe the historical context of occupational therapy practice and its role in shaping current practice trends.
- SLO 11: Students will determine the appropriate theory(ies)/model(s)/frame(s) of reference to address specific client needs and apply this/these theory(ies)/model(s)/frame(s) of reference to implement client centered practice an achieve positive outcomes.
Goal 4: Students will recognize and appreciate the diversity of human beings and their occupations.
- SLO 12: Students will employ cultural awareness to evaluation and treatment to support client centered intervention planning.
- SLO 13: Students will develop goals and objectives to meet diverse client needs.
- SLO 14: Students will monitor and assess the effectiveness of occupational therapy intervention to meet the needs of individuals across the lifespan and from diverse backgrounds.
- SLO 15: Students will identify sociocultural barriers and supports to occupational performance.
- SLO 16: Students will analyze, grade, and adapt occupation to meet client needs.
Goal 5: Students will communicate clearly, concisely and correctly, both orally and in writing to communicate empathically in order to understand, be understood by, and collaborate with clients, families, and colleagues.
- SLO 17: Students will employ a collaborative approach to determine client occupational needs within their various roles and in the context of family and society.
- SLO 18: Students will evaluate the outcomes of intervention and determine the need for discharge/termination of services when appropriate.
- SLO 19: Students will prepare evaluation reports outlining evaluation results and interpretation in setting specific formats.
- SLO 20: Students will educate peers, community members, colleagues, and others in practice related areas.
- SLO 21: Students will recommend client referrals to specialists and/or other service providers when appropriate.

Goal 6: Students will advocate for the consumer and the profession.

- SLO 26: Students will articulate a clear, concise, and cogent rationale for client services to key stakeholders.

Goal 7: Students will articulate the importance of research for practice and to demonstrate the ability to use evidence to make informed practice decisions.

- SLO 29: Students will critically appraise research articles and synthesize the results to answer a clinical question.
- SLO 30: Students will understand and interpret basic statistics, including descriptive, correlational, and inferential statistics.
