Young woman with a raised fist protesting in the street

Social change and social activism help move our society forward, and you can be a part of that progress. The Social Justice minor allows students to examine the causes and consequences of unjust social systems: the ideas that undergird such systems as well as the essential steps for positive change.

You’ll explore issues such as immigration, human rights, war, militarism, crime, feminism, race and racism, economic discrimination, gay and lesbian issues, ableism, globalization, feminism, and political disenfranchisement through the lense of multiple disciplines, including literature, philosophy, music, art, sociology, history, religion, and disability studies.

"I have learned how social justice is not only related to humans, but also to our environment and animals. Social Justice goes beyond advocating for human rights and for changes in social policies, and it can be done at micro, mezzo, and macro levels. In my experience with this minor, I have been given opportunities to practice social justice at different levels and I am excited to continue to utilize all that I have learned in my future career and life."
