Grants and Sponsored Research

In October 2023, Robert Gruber, PhD, assistant professor of Philosophy, received a $1,000 Council of Independent Colleges New Currents in Teaching Philosophy Implementation Grant to support implementation of a collaborative teaching intervention in the spring 2024 semester within Springfield College's core curriculum.

Mark D. McCarthy, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Education, and Valerie Annear, MEd, CAGS, director of Educator Preparation & Licensure, received a $10,000 grant in January 2024 from the Massachusetts Department of Early and Secondary Education to implement changes to the early literacy education program. The recommendations for changes emerged from an intensive external review that occurred in fall 2023. Funds will be used to improve teacher preparation in early literacy through partnership development and purchasing curriculum materials.

Kathleen M. Neville, EdD, associate professor and program director for Educational Leadership, received a $6,000 Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation Fellowship travel grant.  The funding allowed Neville to attend the Finnish Lapland International Forum for Education in Rovaniemi, Finland, in January 2024, and conduct a review of the Finnish education system to improve teaching methods. The title of the project was “Incorporating Finnish Educational Pedagogy into Educational Leadership.”
