Students generally complete the following requirements to apply to medical school.

There are two types of medical degrees: an MD degree from a medical school, and a DO degree from an osteopathic school. Requirements vary by program and additional prerequisite courses may be required for some courses on the list.

Medical school prerequisite courses

Organic Chemistry 1 & 2
Biological Chemistry

Statistics or Biostatistics
Intro to Psychology (content included in MCAT)

Additional medical school requirements

MCAT exam scores
High overall GPA
High GPA in science courses
Letters of recommendation
Personal statement
Patient care hours (the exact number of hours required varies by program; many applicants work as a medical assistant, CNA, or an EMT to accumulate hours)
Community service and extracurricular activities
