GSR - Step 2: Identify Funding Sources | Springfield College

Weather Alert

Due to the projected winter storm, the campus will have a delayed opening on Thursday, December 5, 2024. All campus operations will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the first classes at 9:25 a.m. This delay will provide Facilities Management sufficient time to clear parking lots and sidewalks for the safety of our community.

The Flynn Campus Union, Health Center, Wellness Center, and Counseling Services will also open at 9:00 a.m. Students with appointments will be contacted directly regarding any changes. Cheney and Dunkin’ Donuts will open as regularly scheduled.

Grants Resource Center

Springfield College faculty and staff have access to the Grants Resource Center (GRC). The college’s subscription to the GRC provides you with access to a comprehensive suite of tools, services, and expertise to help you win competitive grants from federal and private sponsors. Please visit the Office of Grants and Sponsored Research PrideNET page for login details.

The GRC offers the GrantSearch funding database, where faculty members and staff can easily access grants availability information according to academic discipline and funding agency. At GrantSearch, you can sign up for Faculty Alerts by academic subject, activity, and funding sponsor.

GRC publications include:

  • GRC Bulletin is a twice-weekly digest of grants.gov, Federal Register, and FedBizOpps notices with the potential to have an impact on higher education grant-seeking and program development.
  • GRC GrantWeek is a weekly electronic news magazine that analyzes federal legislation, agency policies and challenges, and best practices in research administration with much of the information gathered on the ground in Washington.
  • GRC Deadlines is a monthly funding opportunity alert that provides 90 days’ notice of federal agencies and private foundations application deadlines, along with all the information necessary to screen solicitations and contact program officers.

The GrantSelect Database

The Springfield College Library provides access to the extensive GrantSelect database, which is an online database of funding opportunities such as grants (for programs, projects, planning, start-up, endowments, technical assistance, facilities and equipment, etc.), awards, and fellowships.

Funding opportunities range from pure research grants to arts programs, biomedical and health care research, community services programs, children and youth programs, K-12 education funding, international programs, and operating grants for nonprofit organizations.

Login with your Springfield College username and password to access GrantSelect.

Pre-Award Services

As soon as you identify a potential grant funding opportunity as an applicant or a subawardee, please contact the Office of Grants and Sponsored Research at 748-3654 or grants@springfield.edu for assistance in analyzing the solicitation and potentially initiating Step 3: Obtaining approval to begin developing a grant proposal.

Funded Proposal Library

GRC obtains funded proposals regularly and provides them to members free of charge. The proposals listed in their library have come to GRC through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to federal agencies, from funders seeking to supply proposals that show best practices, or from successful principal investigators (PIs) or proposal writers. Note that the proposal text is protected by copyright and may be used only for nonprofit educational purposes. The Proposal Library contents are not intended to be replicated at the campus level. Proposals in the Library are never intended to be posted publicly or shared with non-member campuses. They are available through the Library for use only by GRC members.

Prospective PIs are encouraged to directly contact successful PIs. A dialogue with a successful PI can provide insight into the application process that is more beneficial than reviewing a cold copy of a funded proposal. Only proposal abstracts are accessible in the Proposal Library. For a copy of the full proposal or to locate proposals not contained in the GRC Library please contact the Office of Grants and Sponsored Research at 748-3546.
