General Graduation Information

 


Participating students can find details regarding their graduation application, the graduating student survey, ordering their cap and gown, and/or ordering their class rings or graduation announcements on the My Graduation Information page in PrideNET (PrideNET > My Profile – Student > My Graduation Information.).

Commencement Rehearsal: There will not be a rehearsal for commencement. Graduates will be given instructions during the pre-ceremony line-up on the morning of their commencement ceremony.

Professional Conduct and Attire:

The commencement ceremony is a formal academic event. Graduates are expected to dress and behave in a professional manner during the ceremonies. The College reserves the right to request that unacceptable attire be removed, or to exclude from the ceremony any prospective graduate who does not meet acceptable standards of dress or conduct from participating.
 
The following honors/awards have been approved by the Commencement Committee and may be worn at the ceremonies:  

Sashes/Stoles:
  • White sashes worn by student marshals at the graduate and undergraduate ceremonies
  • Sash worn by senior class officers, the student trustee, and seniors who were on the Student Government Association Executive Board
  • Kente Cloth Graduation Stole worn by members of the Black Student Union
  • Peach Sash worn by the Executive Board members of the Springfield College Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association
  • Maroon Stole worn by seniors who were student-athletes for at least two years including their senior year
  • Sash worn by Cultural Connections leaders and Student Ambassadors
Cords:
  • Phi Alpha double-knotted blue and gold honor cords worn by Master of Social Work graduating students inducted into the Phi Alpha International Social Work Honor Society
  • Green and Silver cords awarded to Physician Assistant majors inducted into the Phi Alpha honor society
  • Blue and white honor cords worn by graduate students in rehabilitation who have been inducted into Chi Sigma Iota
  • Gold and green cords worn by accounting, business management, health care management, and marketing majors who have been inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society
  • Red and green honor cords for biology majors inducted into the Tri Beta Honor Society
  • Red and black honor cords awarded to English majors and minors inducted into the Sigma Tau Delta Honor Society
  • Purple cords issued to seniors inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society
  • Teal and gold honor cord for students inducted into Delta Phi Tau National Physical Therapy Honor Society
  • Green honor cords awarded to students of distinction in the Department of Physical Education and Health Education based on GPA, professional membership, and service
  • Blue and platinum cords issued to seniors in Psychology inducted into the Psi Chi Honor Society
  • Red, white and blue cords issued to veterans
  • Royal blue and gold honor cords worn by graduating students inducted into the Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society, which recognizes high-achieving college students with disabilities
Medallions:
  • Medallions presented to three graduating seniors in athletic training: Senior Scholar, Senior Service, and All-Around
  • Medallions awarded to seniors in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts
  • Medallions awarded to Honors Program graduates
  • Honors medal awarded by the Department of Health Sciences to six seniors each year
Pins:
  • Pin awarded to students inducted into Delta Phi Tau National Physical Therapy Honor Society
  • Pins issued to seniors who have been involved in New Student Orientation and Pre-Camp

Safety Issues: Graduates should be aware that participation at the commencement ceremonies will require participants to climb stairs to the stage while wearing academic regalia. In order to ensure their safety, candidates for degrees should choose sensible footwear for the ceremony. High heels, flip-flops, and other unstable shoes are not recommended for this event.

Pictures: A professional photographer will take a photo of each graduate during the ceremony. Photo samples will be sent to your Springfield College email address during the week following commencement. After the ceremony, you may order online at gradimages.com or call (800) 261-2576. 

You are welcome to take pictures before and after the ceremony. Only professional photographers will be allowed in front of the stage in the Field House and on the floor at the MassMutual Center.

Diplomas: Please note that diplomas for May graduates will be mailed to the student’s diploma address provided on their graduation application approximately 6-8 weeks after commencement.

Springfield College Bookstore: The Bookstore will be open on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

To avoid post-commencement confusion, we recommend that families make prior arrangements about where to meet their graduates after the ceremony.
