Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI)

Please note that this seminar is capped at twenty participants. Priority will be given to individuals who will be supervising and training current students in placement, or are interested in doing so for the future. Given that we're a regional program, we're limiting participation supervisors in New England and New York State. The Office of Field Education will contact you regarding participation in this seminar. A learning management system, "Brightspace" is used to store the program materials, and confirmed participants will be sent information to register online for this at no cost in the summer.

The Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) will be offered virtually via Zoom for this academic year. Field Supervisors who have not yet taken the SIFI, either through Springfield College or another accredited graduate school of social work, are encouraged to do so. Most New England area schools of social work offer the SIFI through a cooperative network. If you would like to attend a seminar in your area at a participating school, please contact the school or program in graduate social work in your area. Please note that some schools are not able to take supervisors into their SIFIs who are supervising students from other schools.

Meetings will occur about once monthly, on Friday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 am. Some asynchronous/self-directed components will be offered.

Fall 2023: September 15, October 13, November 17, December 15

Spring 2024: January 12, February 16, March 15, April 19

A certificate of completion will be offered for participants who attend a minimum of 7 of the 8 sessions. Up to 20 ceus will be offered to participants who complete all sessions.

Individuals who are interested in participating can apply online here:
