In addition to dedicating the ability field in honor of Kurt Aschermann ’71, there was another dedication during the baseball alumni reunion on Oct. 6. Springfield College dedicated the home bullpen of Archie Allen Field in honor of Tom Badcock ’71, Chip DePalma ’71, and Shorty Dixon ’70, G’77, three Springfield College baseball legends.

Badcock, DePalma, and Dixon pitched on the successful teams that went to the postseason in 1969 and the College World Series in 1970. The trio combined for 39 wins, pitched 38 complete games, and struck out 447 batters while pitching 457 1/3 innings and owning a remarkable 1.90 ERA as a unit.

Despite their involvement in the program some 50 years ago, their names remain etched in the history books, as Dixon’s 22 career wins, DePalma’s eight career shutouts, and Badcock’s 188 career strikeouts remain program records. The dedication was made possible by a gift from their catcher, Kurt Aschermann ’71.
