A Message from the President and the Director of Athletics

With the health, safety, and welfare of our student-athletes, teacher coaches, and staff in mind, we have determined that there will be no intercollegiate athletics competition for the Fall 2020 semester.

Dear Springfield College Faculty, Staff and Students,

With the health, safety, and welfare of our student-athletes, teacher coaches, and staff in mind, we have determined that there will be no intercollegiate athletics competition for the Fall 2020 semester.

There is great disappointment knowing that our student-athletes will not have the opportunity to wear THE jersey and compete against other institutions this semester. However, as this COVID-19 pandemic continues to grip our nation, this decision was necessary.

Intercollegiate athletics is woven into the fabric of our campus community and culture. We remain determined to allow teams and student-athletes the opportunity and ability to practice together, take part in strength and conditioning workouts, and benefit from resources such as athletic counseling and sport psychology.

As we continue to learn more about COVID-19 and adjust our everyday approach and behaviors on campus, we intend on returning to competition as soon as possible. However, we remain steadfast in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of our student-athletes and campus community.

This heartbreaking decision to cancel competition this fall was made after months of deliberation, education, and understanding guidelines, restrictions, and testing that would be necessary for the safety of all involved.

As we move through the semester, we will re-evaluate the ever-changing situation to determine how we may return to competition. We are confident that as a Springfield College community we can return to Alden Street and provide you education in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to others.

Until then, please stay safe. We are looking forward to all being together again.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mary-Beth Cooper

Springfield College President

Dr. Craig Poisson
