Springfield College Collaborates with World Affairs Council of Western Mass to Host Sports Diplomacy Virtual Event
Springfield College has collaborated with the World Affairs Council of Western Mass (WAC) to host a virtual event titled "Sports Diplomacy in Western Massachusetts and Beyond," scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 22, starting at 7 p.m.
Springfield College has collaborated with the World Affairs Council of Western Mass (WAC) to host a virtual event titled "Sports Diplomacy in Western Massachusetts and Beyond," scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 22, starting at 7 p.m.
The evening will feature Ryan Murphy, Program Officer in the Sports Diplomacy Division of the State Department. Since 2009, Murphy has been directly overseeing the International Sports Programming Initiative (ISPI) for the Sports Diplomacy Division of the State Department, the division’s annual sports grant competition portfolio. In addition, he also serves as a liaison with the United States Olympic Committee and National Governing Bodies of Sport.
In addition, Murphy also has worked as an International Doping Control Officer for International Doping Tests & Management, from 2003 through 2015, conducting doping control tests on athletes throughout the world.
Prior to joining the U.S. Department of State, Murphy was the Senior Manager for Sport & Competition globally for Special Olympics International, working there from 2004 through 2009. In this role, he helped to develop sport resources available to the network of coaches and administrators around the world in the more than 30 sports that Special Olympics include.
An Adjunct Professor for the Sports Industry Management program at Georgetown University, Murphy has taught Corporate Social Responsibility and Globalization of Sport, as well as served as a Capstone Advisor.
Murphy completed an MA in International Sports Law from Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, England, as well as an MSc in Sport and Recreation Management from The University of Sheffield in Sheffield, England. He is a 1999 graduate of West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a BSc in Kinesiology.
