Springfield College Department of Education Chair Stephanie R. Logan participated in the 2021 Institute for Teachers of Color Committed to Racial Justice (ITOC) Teacher Educator of Color Convening virtual conference on January 21-22, hosted and sponsored by San Jose State University’s College of Education.

The event was designed for Black, Indigenous, and people of Color (BIPOC) teacher educators to collaborate through dialogue, and focus on strengthening racial literacies, processing racism and its impact, as well as planning towards racial justice within the context of teacher education.

Logan was one of 40 individuals chosen from over 120 applicants to take part in this special event. Decisions were based upon a variety of criteria including evidence of racial literacy, an asset framing of communities of Color, and a demonstrated potential for racial justice leadership in teacher education.

Since August of 2017, Logan has been an associate professor of elementary and multicultural education at Springfield College. Prior to her arrival at Springfield College, Logan worked six years at the University of Northern Iowa in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education Division, where she taught undergraduate and graduate students. Logan also assisted the College of Education in its goal to enhance the skill set of faculty, staff, and students in the areas of diversity, cultural competency, and social justice.

Logan has also served as an elementary school teacher and is a former elementary and middle school counselor. Logan’s research interests include preparing culturally competent pre-service teachers, creating inclusive classroom and campus environments, and social studies teaching in elementary classrooms.
