Springfield College Exercise Science and Sport Studies Students Visit China

Students and faculty from the Springfield College Exercise Science and Sport Studies program, including athletic training, traveled to Hong Kong and Guangzhou China to learn more about traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese culture.  While in Hong Kong, the group visited Hong Kong Baptist University and the Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The purpose of the museum is to introduce to the local and international community the profound, long-standing and well-established history of traditional Chinese medicine, as well as the historical development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong. The group was treated to a lecture and demonstration on traditional Chinese medicine practices by a physician from the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University.

The group then traveled to Sun-Yat Sen University in Guangzhou China and spent three days in academic and cultural exchange with students and faculty from SYSU. Springfield College senior Shannon Robitaille presented an orthopedic case study while senior Courtney Greth presented on the history and culture of Springfield College. Professors from SYSU provided lecture and demonstrations of Traditional Chinese Medicine methods such as cupping, acupuncture, massage and patient assessment methods.
