Springfield College Hosts NIRSA Regional Flag Football Championships

flag-football.jpgThe Springfield College Campus Recreation Department recently hosted the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Regional Flag Football Championship on the campus.  This was the sixth-consecutive year that Springfield College hosted the event, which featured 23 teams from 19 different higher education institutions from throughout the east coast.

"Springfield College is one of only two institutions on the entire east coast to host an event like this," said Springfield College Director of Campus Recreation David Hall.  "There are a total of 10 regional sites throughout the country that host NIRSA Flag Football Championship events.  We have to put a bid in to NIRSA every year to host this event, and we have been very fortunate to have been approved each of the last six years, due in large part to our involvement with NIRSA, but also due in large part to the great facilities we have at Springfield College."

The majority of the games at this year's event were played at the Irv Schmid Sports Complex, but teams also had the opportunity to compete on the turf at Stagg Field.

Along with the participating teams, the tournament featured more than 40 students and staff members from 20 separate institutions assisting with the officiating, and the overall game-day operations for the competition.
