Community members who are in need of food were encouraged to pick up the free food at the food distribution location hosted by the Springfield College Department of Public Safety located on Portsmouth Street.

Volunteers from Springfield College and Open Pantry, led by the Center for Service and Leadership, Office of Inclusion and Community Engagement, and Springfield College Police, distributed the boxes. Springfield College alumni, student-athletes, staff, faculty, and multiple student-led clubs on the campus participated in the volunteer opportunity. The public was asked to drive into the parking lot and pop their trunks to ensure a touchless drive through experience.  Individuals also could come to pick up food and were asked to come to the Rugby Field next to Public Safety. All individuals participating were asked to wear masks and to practice social distancing.

“Springfield College is always proud to partner with the Open Pantry in distributing food to Springfield residents," said Springfield College Vice President for Inclusion and Community Engagement Calvin Hill. "Our mission is to educate students in spirit, mind, and body for leadership and service to others. Service is an integral part of who we are. Open Pantry is known for addressing the needs of our community by providing services with humanity to those in need. By partnering with Open Pantry in this small way, we acknowledge our shared responsibility to the city of Springfield, and our neighbors in need."

The pre-packaged boxes contained approximately 32 lbs. of protein, carbohydrates and dairy products, and are free to all individuals and families.
