You have a way with words—and now you want to teach that. The Springfield College English Education teacher licensure major can equip you with the tools needed to effectively share your writing, reading, and communication skills in the classroom.
The program is designed to first help each prospective teacher develop their own oral and written expression, as well as their proficiency in reading and analyzing literature. Once students enter their upper-level courses, they will learn how to translate those English skills to middle and high school students, helping to build and shape their bright futures.
What job can I get with a degree in English Education?
A degree in English Education from Springfield College prepares you for a variety of rewarding career paths. Many graduates become English teachers in middle or high schools, where you'll inspire students to develop a love for literature, writing, and critical thinking. Beyond the classroom, this degree can lead to roles such as curriculum developer, designing engaging and effective educational materials.
You might also pursue a career as an educational consultant, advising schools and educational organizations on best practices and innovative teaching strategies. Another exciting option is becoming a literacy coach, where you'll work with teachers and students to improve reading and writing skills.

High school teachers generally teach students from the 9th through 12th grades. They usually specialize in one area. Some teach core subjects, such as math, science, or history. Others specialize in elective courses, such as art, music, or physical education. They may teach several different classes within their subject area.
Middle school typically goes from sixth to eighth grades. However, in some school districts, middle school may begin in fourth grade or extend through ninth grade.
In many schools, middle school teachers are responsible for certain subjects. For example, one teacher may teach math to several different classes of students throughout the day. However, other middle school teachers instruct on every subject to a single class.
