Make a Positive Impact on the Planet.

The Environmental Studies major at Springfield College provides more than a traditional classroom education, with innovative course offerings, frequent in-field experiences, and an interdisciplinary format spanning a variety of programs and areas of interests. This major will help prepare you for the environmental studies career that you want, whether it’s in nonprofit, government, compliance, environmental law, or other related industries.

The goal of the Environmental Studies program is to cultivate your knowledge of environmental issues and provide you with refined understanding of these issues at the local, regional, and global levels. Through the approved curriculum and co-curricular activities (e.g., research and internships), you will learn how human activity impacts the environment and will gain the critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to productively contribute to solutions.

The program will increase your technical competence in addressing the origins, ramifications, and resolutions of environmental issues. At Springfield College, environmental studies is interdisciplinary and designed to promote the leadership necessary for the stewardship of both natural and built environments.

"Environmental studies is something I enjoy learning about, and has the potential to do good for more than just myself. Choosing a major that has the potential to make the world a better place is important to me, and I believe Environmental Studiesdoes this." Ryan Berecz, Class of 2026

"Interning at The Zoo in Forest Park has been one of the best experiences ever! I have been able to work with a number of different animals that I never would have expected to work with. This experience has only increased my love for animals, and it allowed me to finally figure out what I really want to do with my life. I encourage any and everybody to do an internship if they get the chance. " Alexis LeBrasseur, Class of 2021

"I work with the US Fish and Wildlife Service under the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program (WSFR), providing support during grant processing, communication, and other tasks. This experience has allowed me to meet and work with important leaders and biologists who put their time and effort into conserving and protecting our wildlife. Also, I have had the opportunity to participate in multiple activities that have allowed me to practice some of the skills learned from my courses. I am extremely fascinated with the service's work, and now I have a clear understanding of what I want to do in the future." Nathalie Beltran, Class of 2022
