Meet the Student Advocates for Wellness

Here are our students who are involved in Student Advocates for Wellness. If you see them around campus, be sure to say hi!

 

Lilia (Lily) Avila

Hometown: Peabody, Mass.

Major: Exercise Science

Year: Junior 

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Fun fact about yourself: I grew up doing gymnastics and playing the tuba.

Other campus involvement: Student Ambassadors, Springfield College Cheerleading, Exercise Science Club, Outdoor Pursuits leader

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I am a Student Advocate because I want to help people find their voice along with helping myself find my own.

Myah Baird

Hometown: Cornwall Bridge, CT

Major: Physical Therapy

Year: Junior

Fun fact about yourself: I did a service trip to South Dakota last summer to help build houses for the Sioux-Lakota Native American tribe.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I enjoy being able to educate others on campus and being a resource for others!

Lexie Carroccio

Major: Health Science/ Pre-Physical Therapy

Fun fact about yourself: I took a cooking class in Florence this summer!

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I think there is a lot of health information out there that is not so easily accessible, especially for the busy college student. Bringing the education to them in an exciting way makes a really big difference. I love doing Sunday Scaries in the Union because you are guaranteed to teach at least one person something new!

Megan Casey

Major: Dance

Fun fact about yourself: I can do a decent Yoshi (from Mario Kart) impression.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I am a Student Advocate because I enjoy promoting healthy habits and well-being to others. I am passionate about educating peers and always learning more myself!

Erin Duffy

Fun fact about yourself: I’ve been on the world’s steepest zip line.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I am a student advocate because I love the idea of expanding my own knowledge on relatable and often uncomfortable topics to educate my peers and create an engaging learning environment.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? To assist my peers in having tough conversations about important topics that may get overlooked by administration.

Katie Kelly

Fun fact about yourself: I share a birthday with Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I believe in trying to leave places/things better than you found them, and Student Advocates makes this impact on Springfield College - making it better than it already is through fun education and connections. I love being a part of this team where everybody is truly valued and kindhearted - we're also a lot of fun! 

Rishi Lamichhane

Hometown: Nepal

Major: Public Health

Year: Sophomore

Fun fact about yourself: I speak three languages and I am learning Spanish which will make it four.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? When I was a freshman, I had countless queries and concern regarding wellness and I felt somewhat unheard. As a sophomore, I choose to hear such many unheard stories and I have a platform and opportunity to represent and support.  

Moet Matthews

Major: Criminal Justice and Psychology

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I am a student advocate because I believe people should be informed about all things when it comes to health, not enough people know things and because of that they can’t protect themselves from things.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I want to help spread awareness about how to take care of yourself while away at college and in general life.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I am a student advocate because I love the idea of creating a safe and comfortable space in our community. I am excited to work with a team who is passionate about helping one another to achieve a balanced lifestyle through focus on health and well-being.

Why the Student Advocates for Wellness? I am passionate about health and wellness and I have formed wonderful connections with other student advocates. I think as a group we are making a difference on campus and that feels really good!!

I am going into a health care career and I believe this is the perfect stepping stone into my future regarding how to teach other individuals about the importance of both health and safety. I am a student advocate because I have a passion for ensuring inclusivity within health care education!
