The Power of Embracing Your Own Story

In this presentation, Marjorie Rodríguez will discuss how, as a Latinx student, she had to overcome many obstacles, and she will share her journey navigating through college. Rodríguez will also talk about the importance of taking advantage of mentorship and how it has helped her get to where she is today. 

Rodríguez is the assistant director for Student Access and Support and a professor of Social Work at Westfield State University. She is also the advisor for LAFE (Latinx Association for Empowerment) and the co-founder and advisor for Fostering a Culture of Empowerment and Success, a student club that supports current/former foster youth and students experiencing 
homelessness and food insecurity. In addition, she is a key leader and co-founder of the Fostering Student Success Network, a working group providing tangible support for students experiencing housing and food insecurity. She earned doublebachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Spanish, and an advanced standing master’s degree in Social Work from Westfield State.
