The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) identifies career readiness competencies that help prepare college graduates for success in the workplace. Skill-based competencies are utilized by employers to evaluate job applicants’ credentials and are also used to evaluate employee performance on the job, as well as for professional development, growth, and future career advancement.
Throughout your time employed in on-campus student employment opportunities, be cognizant of career readiness competencies, plus other transferable skills that you will be gaining. It is also important for you to articulate them on your resume, cover letter, during employment interviews, and throughout your ongoing employment.
Please become familiar with the following career readiness competencies:
- Career & Self-Development: Proactively develop oneself and one’s career through continual personal and professional learning, awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and without one’s organization.
- Communication: Clearly and effectively exchange information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with persons inside and outside of an organization.
- Critical Thinking: Identify and respond to needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information.
- Leadership: Recognize and capitalize on personal and team strengths to achieve organizational goals.
- Professionalism: Knowing work environments different greatly, understand and demonstrate effective work habits, and act in the interest of the larger community and workplace.
- Teamwork: Build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively toward common goals, while appreciating diverse viewpoints and shared responsibilities.
- Technology: Understand and leverage technologies ethically to enhance efficiencies, complete tasks, and accomplish goals.
Student employment opportunities are available exclusively to students enrolled in on-campus programs at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. Students enrolled in online or hybrid programs, as well as part-time students, are not eligible for on-campus employment.
Please note that students are limited to working a maximum of 20 hours per week, regardless of how many positions they hold. Students are limited to two (2) on-campus jobs at a time.
