Education Equity and Social Justice Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  •  Identify and describe the unjust and inequitable structures that permeate our educational system and discuss ways that they can combat those injustices and create positive change as leaders in the field of education
  • Analyze and engage with scholarship associated with equity and social justice, and apply peer-reviewed research findings to address issues of inequity in social institutions
  • Describe their understanding of the lived experience of others and develop anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory strategies that address inequities and increase opportunities in schools and the broader education landscape
  • Explain their own ongoing practice of self-examination and reflection on their personal biases, values, beliefs and behaviors that influence their thinking about and responses to others, and influence their roles as educators in shaping students’ educational experiences
  • Develop and describe their visions as educators, to develop instructional strategies and advocacy skills related to issues of educational equity and social justice.
  • Acquire the skills needed to facilitate groups and guide organizations with an eye toward equity, justice, community solidarity, and social action
