Campus Inclusion Climate Survey: Faculty & Staff Feeling of Belonging on Campus

Employees who selected into certain social categories (e.g., self-identified as an employee of color or as having a disability) responded to questions about feelings of belongingness or comfort openly expressing their identities or viewpoints on campus. Below are their results, with averages provided based on separations between categories of employees (staff, faculty, and administrator).

Key Findings

  • Overall, employees reported agreeing with having a sense of belonging on campus across the different groups, though neutral feelings were also common for most groups.
  • Disagreement with openness was most pronounced with regard to political views/worldviews; 27.5% of employees disagreed or strongly disagreed that they feel comfortable openly expressing political beliefs.
  • Compared to the other groups, staff had notable low agreement for belongingness based on disability status, but their average score was still above neutral.
  • Agreement was higher for faculty than for administrators and staff for belonging based on race among BIPOC employees, belongingness based on disability and veteran status, and feeling comfortable openly expressing political views) but lower for openly expressing gender identity.
