Campus Inclusion Climate Survey: Student General Campus Experiences

Students responded to multiple questions that asked them to rate to what extent they agree or disagree with statements about their learning experience at Springfield College. Below is an overview of six of these items.

Key Findings

  • The overall scores provide more positive than negative reports, but notably the responses tend to be less positive from the main campus graduate students and BIPOC students.
  • Whereas students generally agree that they feel safe on campus, BIPOC students agreed less than the other groups and 14% of students overall disagreed or strongly disagreed with this statement.
  • Students generally disagreed with the statements “Our campus is diverse, but not inclusive” and “Our campus is inclusive, but not diverse.” Disagreement was lower on the first question, particularly among graduate students and BIPOC students.
  • BIPOC students were the only group to disagree on average with the statements, “Multiculturalism is a core value of our institution's mission” and “There is a great sense of belonging” on campus.
  • Whereas 68% of students strongly disagreed or disagreed with the statement, “This is a hostile study/living environment,” BIPOC students were less likely to disagree with this statement than the other groups. Additionally, 10% of main campus and 9% of ROCE students agreed or strongly agreed with this statement.

Where averages are provided for BIPOC students, BIPOC refers to students who selected African American/Black, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous/Native American, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and/or Multiracial as one or more responses to “What is your race/ethnicity?” Both undergraduate and graduate students from the main campus and ROCE are included in this group.

"I feel safe on campus."

Note that ROCE students did not respond to this question.
