Jessica Barrett, PhD, associate professor of exercise science and athletic training and program director of athletic training, was appointed chair of the Review Committee for the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education in February 2023. In this role, she will coordinate with peer-review colleagues to prepare comprehensive reports following peer review visits. In assuming this position, Barrett will also serve as a member of the Professional Accreditation Council, which oversees the accreditation process for professional athletic training programs.
Korey L. Boyd, PhD, assistant professor of Physical Education and Health Education, was appointed in 2021 to the SHAPE America HETE/PETE Guidance Document Task Force, and helped work on guidelines for preparing future professionals in health education and physical education regardless of the program's structure or the degree level offered. It includes evidence-based practices grounded in research and theory, with information that allows programs flexibility within their own context. The guidelines, titled “Defining Quality HETE and PETE Programs,” were released in April 2023.
Brooke Hallowell, PhD, dean of the School of Health Sciences, was elected as a 2023 Distinguished Scholar Fellow by the National Academies of Practice (NAP) during an awards ceremony in April 2023 in Washington, D.C. Fellowship in NAP is an honor extended to those who have excelled through enduring contributions in their profession, and who demonstrably support interprofessional practice, scholarship, and practice with the aim of accessible, affordable health care for all.
Loni Kearney, MS, assistant professor of Physician Assistant Studies, was appointed to a three-year term in March 2023 to serve on the Physician Assistant Education Association Exam Development Board. As a member of the board, Kearney will help create and peer-review examination questions for publication on the Physician Assistant Clinical Knowledge Rating and Assessment Tool. This is a national examination that is an objective, comprehensive, self-assessment tool.
Kathleen M. Neville, EdD, associate professor and program director for the PhD in Educational Leadership, was appointed in March 2023 to a three-year term as a trustee for the ACPA - College Student Educators International Foundation.
Andrew B. Perry, PhD, professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, was appointed in March 2023 to a second three-year term as associate editor of Convergence, an online publication of the Mathematical Association of America. The term starts in January 2024.
