As a student in the psychiatric rehabilitation/substance abuse counseling concentration, you’ll be required to participate in a rehabilitation counseling practicum that will include working directly with individuals living with chronic illness or disabilities, as well as an internship at a rehabilitation center, hospital, school, or agency.

Graduates of this concentration are eligible to become a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) after passing required exam and graduation. After obtaining required post-degree supervised employment, typically lasting two years, and passing the required exams, graduates also will be eligible to become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor/Certified Addiction Counselor (CADAC/CAC) or Licensed Rehabilitation Counselor (LRC).
