Simone B. Alter-Muri, EdD, professor and director of art therapy/counseling and art education, received the Outstanding Applied Creative Practice Award from the American Art Therapy Association in December 2021. The award is given to an art therapist who serves as a model of excellence in the field of art therapy.

Elizabeth O’Neill, DPE, professor of applied exercise science and program director, received the President’s Award from the New England American College of Sports Medicine for her service as the organization president in 2021.

Gayl Crump Swaby, EdD, associate professor of counseling, received an official resolution from the city of Boston in recognition of her “exemplary work uplifting the mental health and wellness of people across Boston.” The resolution was presented to her in December 2021 by Boston City Councilor At-Large Julia Mejia.

The Student Advocates for Wellness undergraduate peer health education team, supervised by Christine T. Johnston, MPH, assistant director of alcohol and other drug education and health promotion and campus recreation, received the Outstanding Peer Education Program Award presented by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators at its General Assembly Conference in November 2021. Johnston accepted the award for the team’s work on the Asking for a Friend program at Springfield College on behalf of current and former students on the Student Advocates for Wellness team. They include Kaitlyn Rego, Gabby DeRose, Jack Costa, Gabriela Penarrieta, Katelee McCormic, Hannah Day, and Pamela Marino from the Class of 2022; Chalan Whelan, Katie Kelly, Rachel Perry, Arianna Vessicchio, Patrick Hall, Ern Duffy, Rahab Moktan, Myah Baird, Lexie Carroccio, and Annalee Pagliaro from the Class of 2024; Grace Pedersen ’21; Allison Leary ’21, doctor of physical therapy Class of 2023; Garrett Ossolinski ’21, Leah Mills ’21, and April Phelps ’21, all of the physician assistant Class of 2023; Sarah Hogan ’21, clinical mental health counseling graduate Class of 2023; and Kelsi Baker, counseling psychology Class of 2023.
