Simone B. Alter-Muri, EdD, professor and director of art therapy/counseling and art education, co-presented “Revisioning art therapy education: Reflections on inclusivity, accessibility and anti-racism” at the American Art Therapy virtual conference in December 2021. At the same conference, Alter-Muri and Sarah Nangeroni, G’21, art therapist, co-presented “Inking my identity: The healing and transformative power of symbols and tattoos.

William Arighi, PhD, assistant professor of world literature, presented “Fever dreams: Jesús Balmori and Manuel Bernabé imagine a Spanish balagtasan” at the Modern Language Association Conference in Washington, D.C., in January 2022.

Debra Burnett, PhD, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Health Sciences, co-presented “Analysis of parents’ item-specific comments on the caregiver/parent understanding-the-child questionnaire” at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association annual convention in November 2021.

Joseph Brockway, PhD, assistant professor of Spanish, presented “Poetry as a tool for teaching foreign languages” at the Northeast Modern Language Association Annual Convention in Baltimore, Md., in March 2022.

Tommy Crabill, MEd, assistant professor of physical education and head men’s soccer coach, presented “Use of GPS and heart rate technology by a collegiate men’s soccer team” at the Massachusetts Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Convention at Springfield College in March 2022.

Eileen Cyr, EdD, professor of education, and Katy Reed, MEd, Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure® coordinator, co-presented “An examination of urban teachers’ beliefs surrounding their school’s alignment with national family and community engagement standards” at the Critical Questions in Education Conference in Charleston, S.C., in February 2022. Their co-presenters were Cynthia Farmer and Katarzyna Larkowski, both members of the Class of 2022 in the S-Cubed working teachers program, and teachers in the Springfield (Mass.) Public Schools.

Linda Davis-Delano, PhD, director of educator preparation and licensure and professor of physical education, co-presented “Leveraging the power of coalition for teacher diversity: Lesson and recommendations from the paradigm shift initiative” at the Massachusetts Association of Colleges for Teacher Education virtual conference in November 2021.

Katherine Dugan, PhD, associate professor of religious studies, presented “‘Man up!’ Natural family planning and the formations of Catholic masculinities in the 21st century” at the American Academy of Religion Conference in San Antonio, Texas, in November 2021.

Heather Gilmour, EdD, assistant professor of sport management and recreation, and Ariel Rodriguez, PhD, associate professor of recreation management, co-presented “Mutually beneficial partnerships: Diversifying experience for students and faculty through community-action research” at the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation Conference in Houston, Texas, in February 2022.

Mary Ellen Hluska, PhD, assistant professor of art therapy, presented “Art therapy undergraduates: Strategies for equitable learning using real time learning assessment” at the American Art Therapy Association virtual conference in October 2021. At the same conference, Hluska co-presented “Adapting creatively: Introducing undergraduate students to arts-based research through documentary.” Her co-presenters were current graduate students Emma Halloran and Meghan Reed.

Jasmin Hutchinson, PhD, professor of exercise science, was lead presenter of “Psychological and behavioral responses to up- and down-ramped resistance training” at the Association for Applied Sport Psychology Northeast Regional Conference, hosted virtually by Springfield College in March 2022. Her co-presenters were PhD and master’s degree students from the program in sport and exercise psychology. They are Gabrielle Salvator and Allison Grace from the Class of 2022; Samantha Adler, Diana Curtis, Sidney Wentland, and Yan Luo from the Class of 2023; and Cara Gustafson from the Class of 2025.

Longxi Li, MEd, Class of 2022 doctoral candidate in physical education; Michelle Moosbrugger, PhD, associate professor of physical education and chair of the Department of Physical Education and Health Education; and Michael Louis, MS, assistant professor of physical education, head men’s and women’s tennis coach, co-presented “Cultivating college students’ motivation in physical education through sports education model in the COVID-19 era” at the Massachusetts Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Convention at Springfield College in March 2022.

James G. O’Brien, PhD, professor of physics and mathematics and chair of the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, presented “Is the universe really dark?” as part of the Harrington STEM Lectures at the State University of New York at New Paltz in March 2022.

Mara Simon, EdD, assistant professor of physical education and health education, and Korey Boyd, PhD, assistant professor of physical education and health education, co-presented “Towards inclusive scholarship and beyond: Reflective race research in kinesiology” at the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education virtual conference in January 2022.

Anne C. Wheeler, PhD, associate professor of composition and rhetoric and chair of the Department of Literature, Writing, and Journalism, presented “Clusters of memory: Actualizing communicative memories of the gay sexual revolution” at the Rhetoric Society of America Conference in Baltimore, Md., in May 2021. Wheeler also virtually presented “Tubs or cesspools: Making space for celebratory remembering of pre-AIDS gay life” at the Conference on College Composition & Communication in March 2021.
