Springfield College Athletic Training alumni enjoyed visiting with each other during the National Athletic Training Association alumni social on June 25 in Orlando, Fla. The AT program’s legacy of excellence was once again on full display.

The Springfield College Department of Physician Assistant Studies is well represented at Hartford Hospital. Gathering for an alumni photo recently were Collin Reinhard '15, G'16; Loni Carter Kearney '07, G'08; Stephanie Edwards '13, G'14; Emily Truebig, G'15; Hailey Fitzgerald '17, G'19; Matthew Ryan '17, G'19; and Jared Heath, G'18.

Chante recently got together with her SC roommate Cori Miner Roden '99, G'01, at a New York Yankees game with Cori's husband, parents, brothers and son. Connections made at Springfield College often turn into lifelong friendships. For the past 15 years, several members of the Class of 1970 have gotten together during the summer, most recently at the home of Juhan Laurits '70, G'73. In the photo from left to right are Doug Parker '70; Tom Herget '70; Norm Martel '70; Mike Masiuk '70; Juhan Laurits, G'73; and Ralph Arguin '70.nThe Class of 1970 also recently celebrated their 55th SC Reunion.

On July 1, Head Diving Coach Pete Avdoulos '85 and Head Swimming Coach Howard Hinds '00 represented Springfield College at the dedication of the Turners Falls High School pool in the name of Springfield College alumnus, Wes Snapp '58, long-time educator and coach. Wes and family attended via Zoom from Florida. Congratulations Wes!  

Chante Stone '99 and Rick Milton '99 recently got together for a visit. The two long-time friends met on the first day of Pre-Camp and have been friends ever since!

Ryan Coburn '12, G'16, has been named as a Leaders Club qualifier by the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America® (Guardian). Leaders Club is the highest honor annually awarded by Guardian to financial professionals who demonstrate outstanding service and dedication to their clients.

“We congratulate Ryan on being recognized as a Leaders Club qualifier which is a true testament in regard to his exceptional client service,” explains Seth Medalie, CLU®, ChFC®, President and Founder of The Bulfinch Group. “Being named to the Guardian elite group of Leaders Club further proves what a remarkable asset Ryan is to both our firm and to his clients.”

Ryan currently resides in Rollinsford, NH with his wife and daughter after growing up in West Warwick, RI.   

Abby Clark '15 has made it to the finals of American Ninja Warrior on NBC & Peacock. The finals are expected to air on Monday, August 11. Clark has been competing on the show for the last eight years, and you can read about her full story captured by Communications/Sports Journalism Professor Mary Dobrow archived in the Triangle.

Communications/Sports Journalism graduate Gabby Thibault ‘20 recently celebrated her second Sports Emmy Award for her work with NBC Sports and Peacock during the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad in Paris, France.

Her second Emmy joins her previous honor for her work during the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo, Japan.

Jack Welch '57 won the 50-yard backstroke (90-94) age group at the recent New Mexico State Senior Olympics held in Las Cruces. Jack was also honored by being selected to be the lead torch bearer of the Olympic flame at the opening ceremonies. 

At left, Lucille Kyvallos '55 was recently inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Inducted into the Springfield Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017, she is one of the foremost coaches and pioneers in women’s basketball. 

She served as the Queens College women’s basketball coach from 1968-79 and 1980-81, compiling a career record of 239-77. Lucille coached Queens College in the 1973 AIAW National Championship, considered to be the breakthrough event for the sport of women’s basketball, and coached Queens as the “home team” for the first women’s collegiate game ever in Madison Square Garden before a crowd of 12,000 fans. She also served on committees for the U.S. Olympics, Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW), and National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) organizations. Lucille was the head coach for the United States women’s basketball team which captured the 1977 World University Games silver medal.

A group of Communications/Sports Journalism alumni recently celebrated their fifth annual mini-reunion. This year they held this annual event in Colorado Springs, Co., enjoying the beauty of that part of the country. With NFL training camps kicking off, Springfield College alumnus Kris Rhim '21 has been making major moves. Rhim made his debut on ESPN’s NFL Live, and also delivered a standout segment on the retirement of legendary quarterback Philip Rivers. View Full Segment
 
He continues to cover the Los Angeles Chargers as part of his growing role at ESPN. In April, Kris returned to his roots on Alden Street as the keynote speaker for the 10th annual Tom Waddell Symposium for Sports and Values, where he shared his journey of doing “Purposeful Work”—a passion that began during his time as a student at Springfield College. 

The summer months are always filled with amazing opportunities to work with youth and families to stay active and healthy.
